Assistance Animals are animals that assist people with disabilities, either through their presence or through tasks they are trained to do. Under the Fair Housing Act, people with disabilities have the right to request reasonable accommodations in housing that afford them equal use and enjoyment of their homes. One common type of reasonable accommodation is for people with disabilities to be allowed to have assistance animals in their homes, even when there is a no-pet policy in place. This course, presented by the Equal Rights Center, will give housing providers an overview of the Fair Housing Act and discuss how to identify reasonable accommodation requests for assistance animals and determine when to approve them. This course takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Upon completion, a certificate can be downloaded by clicking "Achievements."
